Vietnam energy delegation visits UK to boost offshore wind cooperation

HCMC – A Vietnamese energy delegation has wrapped up a week-long visit to the UK aimed at sharing experience and exploring cooperation opportunities in offshore wind development and supply chains, the British Embassy in Hanoi said.
Held from June 16 to 23, the visit brought together 12 representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), and PetroVietnam Technical Services Corporation (PTSC), who traveled to London and the port cities of Hull and Grimsby in the Humber region.
The program featured a series of workshops, site visits, and networking events focused on project financing, legal frameworks, and offshore wind technology.
In London, the delegates participated in the “Global Offshore Wind 2025” conference and joined a roundtable discussion on financing offshore wind projects in Vietnam.
UK experts from both public and private sectors shared recommendations on how Vietnam could strengthen its legal framework and accelerate supply chain development to attract foreign investment and facilitate project implementation. The aim is to support Vietnam’s target of installing 17,000 MW of offshore wind capacity by 2035.
In the latter half of the trip, PTSC delegates visited Hull and Grimsby, two key hubs in the UK’s offshore wind industry and home to the Hornsea project cluster.
They met with industry stakeholders including operations and maintenance firm Xceco, the Siemens Gamesa blade manufacturing facility, the Grimsby Offshore Training Centre, and the Port of Grimsby.
The visits offered Vietnamese representatives detailed insights into infrastructure planning, private sector engagement, and the long-term strategies needed for developing a sustainable offshore wind sector. PTSC also showcased Vietnam’s recent progress to foster potential partnerships with UK counterparts.
