The representative of FiinGroup delivered a presentation on potential export markets for Vietnamese SMEs in the global plastic products value chain at a consultation workshop co-organized by the Agency of Enterprise Development (AED) under Ministry of Planning and Investment (MPI) and USAID Linkages for Small and Medium Enterprises (LinkSME) project

 

Hanoi, May 18^th, 2022, Mr. Le Xuan Dong, CFA – Managing Director and Head of Market Research & Consulting ("FiinResearch"), FiinGroup delivered a presentation and joined a panel discussion at the consultation workshop for “Draft Study Report on Potential Export Markets for Vietnamese SMEs in the Global Plastic Products Value Chain”.

As part of USAID LinkSME project (“the Project”) to support Agency of Enterprise Development and Vietnamese plastic SME companies to build business capability, boost export revenue and join global value chain in the sector, the Project has engaged Mr Le Xuan Dong with the support of FiinResearch project team to conduct the study report above.

USAID LinkSME project and Agency of Enterprise Development invited 40+ representatives from Vietnam Plastic Association (VPA), Vietnam Packaging Association (VinPas), WTO Center - VCCI, Vietnamese trade offices in some major export markets, foreign business associations domestic plastic manufacturers to participate the consultation workshop via online and offline methods.

Vietnam plastic sector enjoyed the strong export growth of around 17% in the last five years. Key export markets for Vietnamese plastic products include US, Japan, Korea, China and the Netherlands. The export turnover is expected to continue its double digit growth momentum in the future thanks to the nation’s committed integration to global value chains via 15 FTAs that Vietnam joined in recent years and growing global demands for eco-friendly plastic and technical plastic products.

Mr. Le Xuan Dong shared the in-depth insights on Vietnam plastic sector, plastic export as well as the assessment of plastic market potentials and key market trends in some major member countries of two key FTAs (i.e CPTPP and EVFTA). In addition, leveraging in-depth expertise of plastic sector as well as , he also discussed the business opportunities for local businesses including SMEs from EVFTA & CPTPP and recommendations to support domestic plastic product manufacturers to participate in the global value chain in the time to come.

The workshop participants appreciated the draft report quality, provided useful comments to finalize the report and recommendations to assist local SME plastic producers to boost exports and join global value chain in the sector.
